The Kumbh is full of moments worth capturing, but it is also a place of worship and a very crowded one. A few simple rules keep everyone comfortable and safe.
Drones Need Permission
Drones are not allowed without police permission, and selfie sticks and tripods are not advised at the ghats. See the Prohibited Items List. Do not fly a drone near crowds, ghats or temples unless you hold official permission.
Respect People
- Ask before photographing sadhus, and accept a no. See our akhadas etiquette.
- Do not photograph people while they bathe, and take extra care with women and children.
- Do not block steps, walkways or entry points to take a picture. Crowds move continuously.
Temples May Not Allow Photos
Many temples do not allow photography inside the sanctum or the hall. For example, photography is not allowed inside the Muktidham temple. Look for signs at the entrance, and keep your phone away if you are unsure.
Best Times and Places
Early morning light is soft, and the ghats are quieter. The Tapovan area and the riverside are calmer than Ramkund. Protect your phone from rain, and see our monsoon guide.
Share Responsibly
Think before you post photos of strangers or children. Do not share rumours or unverified videos, and use official sources for updates.
