Short answer: Anjaneri is a hill near Trimbakeshwar, in the Nashik district, that tradition honours as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. It lies on the road between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, so pilgrims can include it on the way to or from the Kumbh Mela ghats at Trimbakeshwar.

Why Is Anjaneri Sacred?

The hill is named after Anjani, the mother of Hanuman. According to tradition, Hanuman was born here, and a small temple of Anjani Mata on the hill is the main place of worship. For devotees of Hanuman, it is one of the most meaningful stops in the Nashik region.

What You Can See

Anjaneri is a flat-topped hill with green slopes after the rains, and it rises sharply from the plains. Besides the Anjani Mata temple, the hill has caves and the remains of old temples, including an old Jain temple, which show that the place has been important for many centuries.

How to Reach Anjaneri

The hill is roughly 20 km from Nashik city, close to the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road. Visitors usually go by taxi or private vehicle. From the base, there is a climb on steps and a path to the top, so allow time and start early. Read our guide on how to reach Nashik for the wider journey.

Visitor Tips for the Kumbh

  • Pair Anjaneri with Trimbakeshwar and Brahmagiri for a full day in that direction.
  • The Kumbh Mela falls in the rainy season. Steps and slopes can be slippery and clouds can hide the view, so wear sturdy shoes and avoid climbing in heavy rain.
  • Carry water, and check current visiting hours and local advice before you go.
  • On the Amrit Snan days, 2 August, 31 August, 11 September and 12 September 2027, traffic towards Trimbakeshwar will be heavy. See the schedule.
